BCIAA Semifinals: Gov. Mifflin, Exeter Match Up for Second Time with Championship Spot on the Line

Gov. Mifflin and Exeter will face each other Wednesday afternoon in the Berks County girls basketball playoffs for the first time since 2015 with a BCIAA semifinals tilt at Santander Arena at 4:00 p.m.


The full girls and boys semifinals schedule is:


  1. Girls: No. 2 Gov. Mifflin vs. No. 3 Exeter - 4:00 p.m.

  2. Boys: No. 1 Berks Catholic vs. No. 5 Exeter - 5:30 p.m.

  3. Girls: No. 1 Wilson vs. No. 4 Reading High - 7:00 p.m.

  4. Boys: No. 2 Muhlenberg vs. No. 3 Reading High - 8:30 p.m.

The winner between the Mustangs and Eagles moves on to face either No. 1 Wilson or No. 4 Reading High in the BCIAA championship Friday at 6:00 at Santander Arena.


The last time Gov. Mifflin and Exeter matched up in the BCIAA playoffs was 11 seasons ago when the No. 2 Mustangs defeated the No. 7 Eagles 39-29 in the quarterfinals en route to a championship.


This season, the Mustangs defeated the Eagles 65-43 in a league crossover game on Jan. 12 behind junior guard Bella Super's 30 points.


No. 2 Gov. Mifflin Mustangs (17-5)


Last season, the Mustangs made it to the BCIAA championship as the No. 3 seed before falling to No. 4 Reading High 63-57 in the title game.


Gov. Mifflin has won the most BCIAA girls basketball titles with 14, the last coming in 2022 behind Shakyla Mayo and Taylor Koenig. That title was the Mustangs' third in four years and fifth in eight years.


Head coach Mike Clark has 332 career victories as a Berks girls basketball head coach, the fourth-highest total in county history. He coached from 2008 to 2011 at Oley Valley and has been at Mifflin since 2012.


After a 4-3 start to the season, the Mustangs (10-2 Berks I, 17-5 overall) finished the season winning 13 of their final 15 games. They are currently on a five-game winning streak, including a 73-45 win over No. 7 Oley Valley in the quarterfinals last Saturday.


Top Five Mustang Scorers: Bella Super (19.9), Bridget Martin (11.7), Saray Renninger (9.6), Brooklyn George (9.1), Ja'Tiyah Case (4.7).

Last season’s Mustangs: No. 3 seed lost to Reading High 63-57 in BCIAA championship; lost to Central Dauphin 74-43 in District 3 Class 6A first round.

BCIAA playoff appearances by Mustangs (in last 10 seasons):  2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016.

County championships by Mustangs: 14 (2022, 2020, 2019, 2016, 2015, 2011, 1999, 1996, 1993, 1991, 1987, 1984, 1975, 1974).

Mustangs best wins this season: 55-47 over Cedar Crest (13-10) Feb. 4; 46-41 over Cocalico (15-7) Jan. 9.

No. 3 Exeter Eagles (14-9)


Two seasons after all-time leading scorer Grace Reedy graduated, Exeter has a new superstar.


Sophomore Addison Harper has scored 18.1 points per game and led the third-seeded Eagles (8-3 Berks II, 14-9 overall) back to the top of the division and into the BCIAA playoffs for just the fifth time in the past 20 years.


The Eagles hadn't advanced past the quarterfinals in their appearances in 2024, 2023, 2015, and 2006. This season they did after defeating No. 6 Twin Valley 47-36 last Saturday.


After a 4-4 start to the season, the Eagles won 10 of their last 15 games to hold off Twin Valley for the Berks II title.


Head coach Derek Wolfe has won 47 games in through his five seasons at the helm.


Exeter has won three BCIAA girls basketball titles in program history in 1977, 1976, and 1973. The first Berks girls basketball championship was played in 1973.


The three titles is tied with Kutztown, Boyertown, and Berks Catholic for fourth-most in Berks history trailing Gov. Mifflin (14), Reading High (10), and Wilson (9).


Top Five Eagles Scorers: Addison Harper (18.1), Lillie Keperling (8.6), Chloe Dauble (5.8), Chayse Flood (5.5), Ayana Freese (3.6).

Last season’s Eagles: Did not qualify for the playoffs, finished 3-8 in Berks II and 7-15 overall.

BCIAA playoff appearances by Eagles (in last 10 seasons): 2024, 2023.

County championships by Eagles: 3 (1977, 1976, 1973).

Eagles best wins this season: 51-45 over Warwick (17-6) Dec. 13; 59-55 over Reading High (13-10) Jan. 3.
