The last domino in the Berks girls basketball coaching world has fallen.

Daniel Boone girls basketball has its new head coach. Kyle Osenbach was approved as the Blazers head coach on Nov. 3.

“What made me take the position was a chance to rebuild a program,"Osenbach said by phone Monday. "That's what excites me: to bring the Daniel Boone program back to how it was as a dominant program.”

Osenbach replaces Matt Bowe, who stepped down as head coach after three seasons. Bowe replaced Kyle Tranovich after three seasons.

Boone, which has strong roots in Berks girls basketball including the top scorer in county history, has struggled in recent years.

The Blazers broke a 48-game losing streak in Bowe's first game as head coach in the 2022-23 season, but went 9-56 overall the past three seasons.

They last made the Berks County playoffs in 2015.

Osenbach, a 2007 Gov. Mifflin graduate who resides in the Exeter Township School District, hopes to turn the program around.

He's coached a variety of sports at various levels both at Mifflin and Exeter, most recently middle school football and baseball and freshmen boys basketball for the Eagles.

“Coming from Gov. Mifflin, coaching with Gov. Mifflin football, and moving into Exeter and coaching multiple sports there, a lot of these programs are winning programs and have coaches that have lots and lots of experience," Osenbach said. "So moving on from programs like that into this program, I think it's going to help define how to make this program great.”

Osenbach expects a young Blazers team to compete this season and feels seniors in Grace Glass (3.9 points per game last season) and Jessica Parrott (3.7 ppg) will be important building blocks for the future.

The 37-year-old Osenbach mentioned Gov. Mifflin's Mick Vecchio and Exeter's JP Gibbons as mentors. He works as a respiratory therapist at Reading Hospital.

The Blazers tip off the season on Dec. 4 at defending Berks IV champ Oley Valley.
