Reading's Yamilex Rodriguez, TV's Hailey Kilgore Selected as First BGB Players of the Week

Berks Girls Basketball's first two Players of the Week have been selected: Reading High senior guard Yamilex Rodriguez for her play in Week 1 and Twin Valley junior guard Hailey Kilgore for her play in Week 2.


The season officially tipped off on Nov. 29 with the first week of play concluding Dec. 8. Rodriguez led the Red Knights (2-0 Berks I, 5-2 overall) to a 3-1 record during the span with the only loss to Dallastown — which went to the District 3 Class 6A championship last season — by nine points in the Hempfield Tip-Off Tournament championship.

Rodriguez scored 11 points in a 51-37 victory over Bishop Shanahan, 12 points in a 62-24 win over Pottsville, 20 points in a 62-51 victory over Hempfield, and 19 points in the loss to Dallastown.


Rodriguez, who is also the primary ball handler for the Red Knights, is averaging 14.6 points per game on the season. That average is tied for fifth highest in the league. Rodriguez is shooting 80-percent from the foul line so far this year.


The second full week of the season ran from Dec. 9 to 15.


Kilgore and Twin Valley went undefeated during that span to continue a blistering start for the Raiders (2-0 Berks II, 6-1 overall), who sit alone atop the division standings.


The Raiders triumphed Manheim Central, Daniel Boone, and Exeter last week.


Kilgore had 11 points in the win over the Barons, 19 points in the win over the Blazers, and 15 points in the win over Exeter. She's averaging 15.1 points per game, the third highest scoring average in the league.

Kilgore is second in Berks in made 3s (16) and is shooting 78 percent on free throws.
