Wyomissing Senior Duo of Amaya Stewart and Alexis Hardy Pick Up Player of the Week Honors

After a disappointing loss to Reading High in the Berks semifinals prevented Wyomissing from its third straight county championship, the Spartans used it as fuel toward completing a threepeat in the District 3 playoffs.

The senior duo of Amaya Stewart and Alexis Hardy were vital in that playoff run and each has earned a BerksGirlsBasketball.com Player of the Week nod for their play during the weeks of Feb. 17-23 and Feb. 24-March 2.

Stewart had 17 points, 20 rebounds, and five blocks in the Spartans' 49-31 victory over Susquehanna in the District 3 Class 4A quarterfinals on Feb. 21 to begin the quest for the threepeat.

"She's shown that she can do it on both ends," Wyomissing head coach Aaron Anders said. She alters a ton of shots, gets a bunch of rebounds, and is just willing to do whatever it necessary to get the W."

Stewart, an Albany commit, is averaging 19.0 points per game this season and has scored 1,852 career points. That total is 34 away from Rachel Hoffman's school record of 1,886 which was set in 1994.

Last week, Hardy scored six points and hit a 3 Tuesday in the Spartans' 43-39 victory over Northern Lebanon in the district semifinals and scored six points and had three steals in Wyomissing's 26-24 victory over Lancaster Catholic in the district championship.

"Her leadership is what took care of us in [the championship game]," Stewart said of her teammate. "She was telling us what to do and showing poise in every situation. Every time I made a bad play, she'd tell me I got the next play. Her leadership stands out the most and her stepping up in certain areas is really important for our team."

Hardy drilled a 3 to start the third quarter to push Wyomissing's lead to double digits in the championship game. She then made a coast-to-coast layup to regain the lead for the Spartans at 23-22 with less than 5:00 in the game. She made a near identical play shortly after and was fouled at the rim, converting 1-for-2 from the line to push the lead to 24-22 with 4:03 remaining.

The Delaware track commit has been the No. 2 scorer for the Spartans all season at 7.3 points per game.

This is Stewart's sixth selection for Player of the Week and the second time she has been selected this season. This is Hardy's second Player of the Week award. She was also selected as a sophomore in the 2022-23 season.

Overall, a Wyomissing player has been selected POW nine times with Annie McCaffrey and Audrey Hurleman also previously winning the award. Player of the Week was initially awarded by Mike Drago Sports, where Berks girls basketball coverage was previously provided from 2022-24.
